I have many friends who tell me that they get really blue during the winter. The cold and gray days literally affect their moods and attitudes. They have to work hard to stay up and keep focused. I want to be honest and tell you that even though I have heard that time and time again, I have never personally understood it. That is until recently. Man! I thought it would never get warm again. Couple the cold with all the rain and you really have a double whammy. For the first time I think I began to feel what so many of my friends have felt.
It’s funny how we learn to empathize. We have to go through and feel the pain in order to really see what someone else is experiencing. Knowing this is really helping me with my pride issues.
Pride says that if I don’t feel it or go through it, it is not real. Pride says that if I can have life free of these problems, so should you. It is no wonder the Word of God warns us so much against pride. It is really a dangerous and damaging tool. I am so thankful that God hears us and relates to us no matter what we are dealing with. This is why the cross is so important. It allows Him to relate to us and us to Him. It is our common place of suffering and pain. It is where we are understood and listened to. It is where we are reminded that warm days are ahead.
