Blessed Not Lucky
I am blessed and favored by God… not lucky. Sometimes it seems that everything falls in place, and yet other times, well…you know. There are times that it seems you can’t buy a break right?
Paul speaks of being content in all circumstances in Philippians 4:11. Some translations say he is happy others and others say rejoicing. I would settle for being content in all circumstances. I believe that he is referring to being spiritually full to weather the things that the world (or the evil one) throws at us.
In Philippians 4:12 he speaks of knowing what is like to be rich and to be poor. Mae West used the “old entertainer’s saw” line of “I have been rich and I have been poor…rich is better.” Paul, however, proclaims that he had learned to be content in in any and all situations. Whether hungry or full, in plenty or in want…he just kept on keeping on.
Philippians 4:13 is one of the most quoted verses of the Holy Bible: I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Yes, we are favored to have Jesus Christ in our lives, not lucky. So whether we have everything in this world going our way or absolutely nothing working our way, it will be okay. We have more than enough with the assurance that Jesus has our backs…whether they are in the midst of good times or bad ones.
